If you’re willing to drive part of the way, park remotely, and then take a shuttle directly to your terminal there’s the FlyAway Bus (/en/flyaway-bus) which departs from Van Nuys 24/7. Services like and (if you are a member) are a good place to start. Now it seems to be well over $100.Ī third-party website is a good way to see which rental car company (if any) is really hungry for your business. I used to be able to find $50 one-day one-way rental prices from Ventura County. However, rental car rates have skyrocketed lately. I’ve done this several times and found it quite convenient. If you're going on a longer trip where parking fees could add up to hundreds of dollars and you want to drive yourself to the airport you might want to leave your car in your garage and consider a one-day car rental in each direction. You’ll also learn how frequently their shuttles run to the airport, and exactly how close the parking lot is to LAX. A consolidator service allows you to specify between inside and outside parking and whether you want valet or self-park. I find that no one facility is routinely the least expensive. If you take your own car I suggest using a website called that compares the rates of dozens of LAX parking lots. Does anyone really enjoy entering that loop around the terminals? Ding Masters should open a concession at the far end. A friend? That must be a very good friend. But surveys show that most people arrive in a private car whether driven by themselves or a friend. OK, up to now we've talked about a stranger driving you to LAX. What was your experience with reliability in both directions? I’ll share your comments with readers in a future column. The fine print though advised me that “actual fare may vary due to a number of factors including surge pricing.” Ah, the dreaded “surge pricing!” A week ago I priced a hypothetical ride to LAX from Ventura on Uber and was quoted $111. The other issue I have with these rideshare services is their pricing model. However you still cannot pre-book a ride home from the airport. That’s a big improvement from earlier times. What about Uber and Lyft? These days you are allowed to schedule an advance ride for an Uber pick up going to the airport. I interviewed Dana in the early afternoon recently and she mentioned she had already completed two roundtrips to LAX that morning. Don’t be surprised if one of the owners is your driver. Private town car rides start around $210 from Ventura and again are adjusted based on your location.Įxclusive Quiet Ride is a small but growing operation so advance reservations are definitely required (). Rideshare in a van from Ventura is about $130 each way Thousand Oaks about $100 with varying prices for other cities based on distance from LAX. They even operate a Tesla for those who want a green ride to the airport. In each case they pick you up at your home or business. Now four years later they are earning rave reviews on Yelp and getting a strong endorsement from local travel agent Patty Baillie of the Travel Store in Camarillo who loves their reliability.Įxclusive Quiet Ride is the name of this service that covers all of Ventura County with rideshare vans plus town cars and limos for private transportation. Just before they closed up shop a couple of their former employees, Dana and Ken Foster started their own version of Roadrunner. Their departure left a giant hole in LAX options. I used their various services many times and mostly loved ’em. Love ’em or hate ’em, they were ubiquitous around here. It’s been about three years since Roadrunner Shuttle discontinued their service in Ventura County. Advance reservations () are strongly suggested as their shuttles hold a maximum of 13 passengers. Ventura County Airporter Shuttle owner Clayton Vail, who started this business 30 years ago, says she soon hopes to be back up to the 13 roundtrips a day like they offered before the pandemic. If your flight home doesn’t jive with the shuttle schedule, you may be cooling your heels for a while. If their schedule forces you to arrive at the airport extra early, that’s never a bad idea anyway. To me, that works pretty well going to LAX. It’s a scheduled service that has stops in both of those cities and then makes a non-stop run to the airport. Ventura County Airporter Shuttle is only $48 each way. If you live in Oxnard or Ventura you’ve got access to the best bargain around. I’ve encompassed here a few new ideas and some oldies but goodies.
